Spring fever

Today the sun came out and the temp rose above freezing. A great time to start some project horses. With horse show season right around the corner, several clients have sent us horses to get going after this very long winter. We start them out slowly in the indoor with some ground work and then will move on to undersaddle work. Red thought that relaxing was a good work out for the day.

Lynn & Swervie

Congratulations to Lynn on Swervie & her neighbor on their win at the Middlebrook Hounds Hunter Pace this past weekend.
;Swervie is a 10 OTTB that Lynn adopted last year.
Here is a copy of the email she sent me:

Went to Middlebrook Hounds Hunter Pace with my neighbor this morning - Swervie was GREAT! Stood quietly for morning grooming and
tacking up, and self loaded like a gentleman both before and after.
The
footing was lovely - wooded trails and grassy fields. We went for "optimum
time" - trotted and cantered quite a bit, with cool down walks
in-between.  Jumps were optional with go-arounds, so my neighbor jumped
everything, and I started with the go-arounds. But a lovely long stretch
through the woods had a series of natural brush and logs - 18" to 2'
high.  I led through that stretch and Swervie jumped everything with
balance and self adjusting for the next obstacle - 2 to 5 strides
between. I think the last lesson with combinations really helped him
understand how to set himself up. Since he was soft and jumping well, we
did some real jumps that were small - mostly 3 high telephone type poles -
probably about 2' 3". Sometimes I led, and sometimes followed, and
he was good in both situations. I went around anything that looked 2'
6" or larger, but I'm sure he would have handled the 2 1/2 foot jumps
fine. Not sure of the total length of the course - probably 8 miles or
so. We did it in 1 hour and 20 minutes or so, which was a nice steady
pace. Hope they email us the results so we can see how close we came to
the optimum.
